What I've been wearing to school | Vegonista unplugged

Image
At the last days of August, school and work has started. And the whirlwind of everyday life has started. I have a new routine. Since I usually start school at 10.45 I go to the office in the morning and work before bicycling to school. And since it has been a nice and warm August. Tough the cold temperature is creepin’ up. I’ve worn summer outfits. I thought why not share them and some insight in my school start.
If you don’t know- I currently study classical singing and work at an archive. My first week started with a bang. We had auditions to the operetta The Merry Widow. This picture is on the day before the audition. The weather was pertty warm so I went with a midi dress and a simple white button up. This outfit was a brave one. It's almost all white. and if you know me- you know how messy I am. However, I liked this outfit and survived the day without a single stain (can you imagine!?) This outfit I shared on Instagram stories. I was inspired by a fashion drawing that I spot...

New Chapter | Vegonista unplugged

August is here, that means back to work and school! Tomorrow the balance of work and full time studies starts for me. As I mentioned in my previous Vegonista unplugged, I got accepted to study full-time classical singing. But of course as an adult, I still have to work during my studies. Luckily my new job is flexible with working hours.
In spring I made a big jump, I quit my steady job as a practical nurse. And started working an ”office job”. This was before even knowing about my studies. The weird thing is, for the past about 5 years I never got to express my style in my day to day life. Usually my wor k uniform has been scrubs or when I worked at daycare clothes that are practical. And I’m weirdly exited about expressing my style on the weekdays. I used to go ”all out” for the weekends when I could wear what ever I want.
I think I’ve heard the phrase ”it’s a peculiar year” about 100 times now. The pandemic has changed a lot, minimal contact and face masks. A lot of work and schoo...

Is it going to be just another no?| Vegonista unplugged

Image
I sat there with my phone refreshing the page over and over again. I mean it’s almost 9 am, publish the list of the new students already? At this point I don’t care if it’s a no, I just want to know. I feel the build-up of my intense training for this moment to see if my name is among the accepted to study classical singing… My path to this moment started when I was 6 stating proudly to my mom that I want to be a conductor. My mom sang at the time in a choir and I sat and watched the rehearsals. In fact, I was only 3 months old on my first practice. I was in awe over the conductors elegant waiving almost ballet like movements- he was a painter and the choir was the colours.   “Well” my mom said to my ambitious goal “you’ll have to learn the violin and piano”. So I did, I started with Violin lessons after that at the age of 10 I started to play the piano. I got to sing solo in church every Christmas. I auditioned to sing in the opera kids choir, I wasn’t accepted. Many of my fri...

Vappen| Vegonista unplugged

GLADA VAPPEN! HYVÄÄ VAPPUA! HAPPY WALPURGIS NIGHT! If you're English speaker and not from the Nordic countries, you must think- What is Vappen? Well, we celebrate Walpurgis night. Long time ago it was celebrated for the Saint Walpurgis. However, as Halloween and many other traditions. Vappen is celebrated for spring, students and a good excuse to eat yummy food and celebrate that the days are longer.  Usually I spend my Vappen outside, with friends . However, due to the time we live in. I'm spending it safely home. On vappen usually we dress up, use our caps that we get after graduating high school. Soooooo.... I did that even though I'm spending Vappen at home. It felt wonderful- like I'm a normal functioning human again! And if you're looking at the pictures going- why does she have to different caps?? Well, I did a double education. I graduated from high school and vocational high school as a practical nurse. The cap without the tass...

How to not get bored| Vegonista unplugged

Image
We live in weird times right now, feels like everything is cancelled. A while back I had the conversation with my friends about how difficult being in lockdown/quarantine is. The main issue we talked about was being bored. Frankly I don’t ever feel bored, I just always have something to do. Maybe it’s an only child thing, I’ve been a lot on my own growing up. With a single mom I always where with her to meetings etc. So I’m used to keeping myself busy. So I thought why not comply a list full of things to do in this weird times. Make yummy vegan focaccia! I usually don’t enjoy cooking or baking. But in the weekends I usually bake focaccia, It’s easy to make and takes only about 20-30 min to make! Watch Opera, Musicals or follow along a Museum tour online. Currently many of these places are closed and many of them offer online content. For example, The Metropolitan opera in New York has been streaming a new opera every day. As a classical singer student...

New beginnings | Vegonista unplugged

Hi vegobabes happy 2020! Hope you had a good beginning of the new year. I've been at work and enjoying walks. I don't usually make new year’s resolutions, simply for the reason I have a habit of breaking them. I think the thought of "re-inventing" itself is a near impossible task and also kind of toxic. However, I like to set goals- I feel they are easier to work towards. I thought of the things I need to work on. I'd like to walk more- granted I walk daily to work but taking longer walks. As I do work a "desk" job and don't go outside that much I think fresh air would do wonders for my energy (i hope). I would also like to share more of my music, but I don't know yet how. Should I start a separate blog for that or an Instagram? I know that my friends and I will continue with season 2 of Save as draft podcast. And with that will come more music.   What I know for sure that I want to do- is to be more active on vegonista Instagram and post mo...

Princess Powers | Vegonista unplugged

I'm currently in the train back home again. I spent the weekend in Turku at my dear friend. It was a great weekend. I can't believe it's already the end of October. I know it's cheesy but time goes so fast. But I think this fall is going SUPER fast. Like I can't keep up. I've been hustling and really tried my all in my singing studies. I did my first examination in singing in the beginning of October. And it went great! I'm happy with my achievements and the feedback I got was good and constructive. I wore a gown- which is a new thing for me. I didn't go to prom, which in Finland is  in high school. And let me tell you I felt like a princess. And I think it got me feeling powerful which took the worst jitters away being on stage. It's wonders what a dress or actually clothes can do with your confidence. I have to tell you I'm already exited for my next performance.  Speaking of performances- I saw the Metropolitan Opera's  Turandot on Fi...

So a few weeks ago I realised that I'm not that personal on the blog. Sure I write about my fashion/makeup preferences etc. But you who's reading this and doesn't know me IRL probably don't know that much about me....  Well I asked you on IG if you'd want to see more about my day to day life and singing studies and the majority of you replied yes. So here I am starting a new series on the blog. Here and there I will make an additional post- not about fashion or usual vegonista content. But about me- my life a old school blog- you know like the 2000s movies haha. So first let's start with the basics. Who am I?  Here's some quick facts about me.  1. My name is Emma I'm in my 20's 2. I'm a practical nurse and work at a doctor's clinic 3. Music is my passion, I'm currently studying classical singing. I also play the piano, guitar, violin etc. But currently I'm concentrating on my singing.  4. As a person I'd describe  myself a...
